WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. – An announcement at a Walmart store in New Jersey ordering black people to leave brought chagrin and apologies Wednesday from leaders of the company, which has built a fragile trust among minority communities.

Volunteers along Red River in flood-fighting mode

FARGO, N.D. – Volunteers in North Dakota were in flood-fighting mode again Tuesday filling sandbags while contractors constructed clay levees along the fast-rising Red River to help protect nearby homes from the murky waters.

High winds, rain in Northeast topples crane in NJ

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. – Strong winds and heavy rain pounded parts of the Northeast on Saturday, leaving more than 100,000 without power in New Jersey, where a boom crane at an Atlantic City casino construction site tipped over, scattering debris over a six-block area and injuring a police officer.
